Introduction
Passing the IPMAT test is just a question of time-the personal interview round is what will get you into IIM Indore or IIM Rohtak. The interview will be your opportunity, however, to not only display your academic genius, but also your character, self-assurance and intellect. As IPMAT is approaching 2026, it is important to prepare the common interview questions so that you can stand out of the crowd.
Structure of IPMAT 2026 Interview
The IPMAT interview typically has three layers:
- Personal introduction and background – Your personality, family background, and hobbies.
- Academic and stream-based questions – Questions from subjects you studied in Class 11 and 12.
- General knowledge and awareness – Current affairs, logical awareness, and real-world questions.
Commonly Asked Personal Questions
Tell me about yourself
This is the question that can be raised first. A strong answer could be:
“My name is [Your Name], and I’m from [Your City]. I completed my 12th with [percentage], and I’ve always been passionate about management and leadership roles. My recent achievement was leading my school’s debate team, which taught me confidence and communication. In my free time, I love reading biographies and playing chess, as they sharpen my strategic thinking.” What are your weaknesses and strengths?
Strength: I am an adaptable learner and can learn fast. In my example, I was able to learn the fundamentals of financial accounting within only two months in high school.
Weakness: I am a perfectionist, but I am also learning to be more time conscious by setting clear deadlines.
What are your hobbies?
Instead of generic answers like “reading,” add depth:
“I enjoy photography because it allows me to see details others often miss. It has improved my patience and observational skills, which I believe are valuable in management.”
What makes you unique?
Focus on real skills:
I have a good combination of academics and extracurriculars. In fact, I scored 95% on my board exams and also played on the state-level basketball tournaments in the name of my school.
Career and Motivation Questions.
What was your reason in selecting IPMAT as a profession?
IPMAT provides a direct entry to IIM that is reputed to be the place where future leaders are made. I picked this one because I would like to be exposed to management early and a combination of academic and practical knowledge that is not provided by most undergraduate courses.
What is your reason to join IIM Indore?
The IPM program is rare because it incorporates management with liberal arts and analytical training at IIM Indore. It is my first choice because of the vibrant campus life, case-study pedagogy, and exposure to the international world.
Why should I select you?
I have creativity, teamwork, and commitment. I also hope to study and to be able to contribute back to the IIM community through starting clubs, attending events, and mentoring other students.
How do you intend to use the course after you finish it?
I will make finance and strategy my major. In the long term, I would like to work in the consulting field and then move on to be an entrepreneur.
Skill and Development Oriented Question
What would you like to gain in college?
I would like to master the skills of leadership, critical thinking, and decision-making based on data. I can give an example of learning the basics of Excel and business analytics to prepare me.
What is your vision of how you can make a difference in the campus community?
I like planning events and coaching fellow students. I would like to be part of cultural clubs and participate in student projects at IIM Indore.
Academics and Knowledge-Based Questions
What is your favorite subject and why?
My favorite subject is economics as it is a way to learn more about how markets and business operate. An example of this is that studying demand-supply models allowed me to learn how to solve real-world problems.
Stream-Specific Questions
Science: Newton and his laws, forces in motion, etc.
Trading: Accounting, balance sheets.
Arts: political science principles, literature study.
Awareness-Based Questions
Though you have gone out of Kanyakumari and into Srinagar, you will go through Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Situational and Analysis Question.
Leadership and teamwork
Leadership means leading others in a direction. In my case, it has nothing to do with authority and more about responsibility. I was in charge of a project in school and each member of my group was strong in a specific way and I made everyone feel like they were useful in that project.
Problem-solving
Once we were at a science exhibition and our model broke down at the last moment. I had to make use of what we had, so we still got second place. This was a lesson in learning how to be flexible when faced with pressure.
